Leading The Way in Sustainable Roofing: Anthéa and RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Roofing Products, a Story of Joint Pursuit of Excellence

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products supports the expansion of Anthéa with the construction of its new Gardanne headquarters. Designed to house also the new Anthéa Energie and Anthéa Entretien divisions, the project utilises RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart and Solar membranes to comply with the stringent environmental criteria of the BDM Silver label, strengthening a twenty-three-year partnership dedicated to solar innovation and roof waterproofing.

RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products is proud to announce its contribution in the construction of the new headquarters for Anthéa, a French specialist in roofing, cladding, waterproofing, smoke evacuation, and photovoltaics.

Located in Gardanne on a historic former coal mining site, the project represents a benchmark for sustainable industrial design. To comply with the rigorous BDM (Bâtiments Durables Méditerranéens) Silver level certification required for the site, the facility integrates low-carbon steel and a high-performance roofing system using RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart and Solar membranes.

From coal mines to sustainable innovation: the evolution of the Gardanne site

Founded in September 2003, Anthéa is a specialist in roofing, cladding, waterproofing, smoke evacuation, and photovoltaics. A member of the Fédération Française du Bâtiment 13 (FFB13) and Qualibat waterproofing certified, the company has built its success on technical excellence and long-term professional relationships.

Central to this journey is a twenty-three-year partnership with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products, a collaboration that has been a cornerstone of the business since its inception.

The company was already established on this historic former coal mining site in Gardanne, where a decade ago it had already installed RENOLIT ALKORPLAN systems on several existing buildings.

When the opportunity arose to acquire land in the mining area, Emmanuel Giordanengo, founder of Anthea, chose to establish the Group's headquarters there. This decision was aimed at supporting the main business and hosting the new divisions: Anthéa Energy, dedicated to photovoltaic systems, and Anthéa Entretien, specialising in the maintenance of traditional and photovoltaic roofing.

However, the land acquisition was strictly conditional on meeting the stringent environmental criteria of the BDM Silver label, a certification that evaluates the environmental performance of buildings in the Mediterranean climate, ensuring they respect the local ecosystem through bioclimatic design and sustainable material use.

Meeting BDM Silver standards with RENOLIT ALKORPLAN’s high-reflectance and solar solutions

To meet the stringent BDM Silver requirements, the project utilises RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart, a cool-roof membrane designed for high solar reflectance. This solution features specialised pigments that reflect solar radiation, significantly reducing building overheating and the energy required for cooling, a vital benefit in the Mediterranean climate. Its reduced thickness and weight also contribute to a lower carbon footprint by reducing emissions during transport.

In addition to this, Anthéa installed photovoltaic panels with the help of the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system, ensuring perfect integration with the roof. This system is hot air welded to the membrane, ensuring total waterproofing without the need for ballast or perforations in the roof structure.

“The choice of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN and the Solar system was natural for us, as we have been collaborating for over 20 years. What I appreciate about RENOLIT ALKORPLAN and PVC is that it is one of the easiest synthetic solutions to weld and install”, says Emmanuel Giordanengo, Founder of Anthea.

The practical nature of the RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar system allows for easy maintenance and adjustments, a feature of particular importance for the Anthéa Entretien division. This technical reliability is verified by international certifications, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, as well as Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) that attest to the products’ low environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle.

A shared vision for a sustainable future

The collaboration between Anthéa and RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products transcends a mere business relationship; it is a shared journey that has forged a partnership lasting twenty-three years.

For Emmanuel Giordanengo –  whose expertise was recently recognised by his election as Président du syndicat de l'étanchéité des Bouches-du-Rhône for the CSFE –  sustainability is a fundamental mission.

"Sustainability must be the cornerstone of every modern construction project," states Giordanengo. "We are not just building roofs; we are creating active energy solutions that contribute to a cleaner planet." Through his leadership, he promotes a professional culture where high-quality waterproofing and solar integration drive the ecological transition.

This commitment aligns with RENOLIT’s own sustainability goals and is backed by concrete results. Through the Cool3 campaign with Treedom, the project saw 13 trees planted – one for every 100 square metres of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart used – saving 4,485 kg of CO2.

"We are proud to stand alongside Anthéa in this landmark project. When the manufacturer and installer align their goals, we can significantly reduce the carbon footprint of industrial buildings", says Yves Ballo-Kassoum, Managing Director at RENOLIT France.

Ultimately, this long-standing collaboration is a story of joint pursuit of excellence – a benchmark for the industry that combines decades of field experience with a forward-looking vision for global sustainability.
